Carrefour Utilizes Blockchain to Trace Textile Products
The French retail giant expands its utilization of blockchain technology to textile products for a greener and more sustainable supply chain.
Carrefour, the global company, has recently announced that its expansion of its utilization of blockchain technology to textile products. The retail giant, carrefour, has been a member of IBM Food Trust since 2018 and has placed several exclusive products on the blockchain network. The use of blockchain to track the textile products will allow customers to track the Tex BIO products by simply scanning a QR code on the products.
Customers will be able to access data regarding place and date of production of the product, the product’s contents and composition, method of cotton cultivation, as well as have access to environmental certificates.
This extension is currently available for the company’s Tex Bio range which is essentially home textiles as well as baby and toddler’s clothes.
The TEX Bio is made of cotton coming from ecological agriculture (100 OEKO-TEK certified) ensuring that no skin-harmful content was used in the making of these textiles.
This move, will allow customers to be aware of where their garments are coming from and how they are made. Hence, it will create a more transparent and greener supply chain for the textile industry.
