A brief introduction to vertical and horizontal louvers.
When it comes to choosing which exterior shading system to apply whether horizontal or vertical, they come in three options (fixed, adjustable, and retractable). The external shading systems are more effective than the interior shading systems (blinds) simply because, if the sun’s energy does not enter the house, then it does not have to be dealt with. The exterior shading louvers often need little or no maintenance as well apart from the paint maintenance.
The fixed exterior shading louvers can often only shade from the higher sun while the adjustable louvers can change their orientation, however, stay on the façade of the building (the adjustable and retractable louvers can be switch operated, meaning the occupants or users can control the angles and orientation or position. There is also a fully automated option where it automatically configures itself into the right angles and orientation according to the sun angle and season, and the desired indoor temperature.
The vertical louvers are most useful for the west and east façade of the building.
Horizontal louvers are best utilized at the south façade of the building to block and reduce the solar gain during the summer season, thus reducing the cooling load on the building or house. As a result, you can save on the electricity bills as well as utilize a passive system.
